Mountain Valley provides the perfect 'base camp' from which to embark on all sorts of walking expeditions. Our unique location amongst the hills and mountains of the Maunguhururu and Kaweka ranges enables you to use us as a setting off point for your walking adventure, be it short and leisurely or lengthy and arduous.

Take one of our guide maps and wander the forest trails and tracks around our 260 acre property.
Want to walk independently in native bush within easy reach of Mountain Valley?
Take one of the Department of Conservation walks ranging from 20 minutes to a full day in the Boundary Stream reserve, just 40 minutes from the lodge along great panoramic unsealed country roads. At the end of the day head back to us for a hearty meal and a drink in the lodge, or continue to Napier direct from your walk.
Looking for a more challenging full day or overnight mountain walking adventure?
New for this season, we have teamed up with Afoot, a specialist bush and mountain walking operator with whom we now offer superb guided one day to multi-day adventurous hiking trips into the Kaweka Mountains. All the itineraries include a good soak in one of the thermal hot springs, and our newest package includes a combination of an overnight mountain walking adventure followed by an all day rafting expedition from your finish point out to Mountain Valley on one of the most pristine stretches of water on the Mohaka. No transport? Leave it to us.
We will transfer you to your start point and collect you at your journey's end. Our drivers have extensive experience and local knowledge about the access roads to your walking area, taking the weight of organising your drop offs and pickups off your shoulders. For our guests we offer a shuttle and pick up service from Mountain Valley to the Department of Conservation's Boundary Stream Reserve and to the Kaweka Mountain range, which afford spectacular wilderness walks lasting from a day to multi-day expeditions.
