High Performing Teams

The concept of 'teambuilding' has become a well worn cliché in New Zealand, which might involve anything from a trip to the pub, to a manic paintballing or bungy jumping frenzy with one of the country's great adventure activity operators. This is ok as far as it goes, but our belief is that any real team development happens more by accident than by design. 'Hence our high performing teams programmes are entirely customised to your team's needs and linked directly to the business outcomes you are looking to achieve. They can be designed for new teams, reorganised or established teams alike. Like our leadership programmes, the mixture of theory, increased self awareness, practise and challenge serves as a powerful recipe to accelerate the development of a high performing team. This is well demonstrated in the world of the armed services and of sport, from which we draw many of our models, exercises and stories.

Before looking at the key components of a high performing team, we explore what we call the 'pre-conditions' for any team's existence. Building from this baseline, which is so often overlooked in team development, we then continue to review what ingredients enable teams to consistently outperform their peers or competition. This takes place through a mix of discussion from participants' personal experiences, anecdote and case study, consultant input, and through experimentation in the outdoor environment.' Any outdoor activities, scenarios or challenges are included as a vehicle for team development. They are the means to achieving the desired end result, not the end in itself.
