Mud & Guts Event Information


What? Mud and Guts is the ultimate mud run challenge, featuring a 9km obstacle course with 50+ gruelling, unpredictable purpose-built obstacles.
When? Sunday, 3 June 2018 (Queens Birthday Weekend)
Where? Mountain Valley Adventure Lodge & Camping Ground, 408 McVicar Road, RD2 Napier (off SH5, Napier-Taupo Road)

Event Day Timetable

10am - 11.00am:   Registration at venue
11.15am:   Briefing
11.30am:   Start of the event
TBA:   Prize-giving (30 minutes after last person finishes)


Registration is a 2-step process:

1. Submit a registration form (either online or by mail)

2. Pay the registration fee

Each individual entrant must complete the process. Team Captains only need to submit one registration on behalf of their Team.

If you purchase an Earlybird entry, you will need to submit your form after payment.

Included in the registration fee is access to the MV Mud & Guts Obstacle Course, a cup of hot soup at the end of the race and hot showers.

Entry Categories

Open Men and Women: Open to male and female competitors 13-39 years of age
Older Guys & Gals: Open to male and female competitors 40yrs of age and older
Team: Open to teams of 5 competitors – must complete the race as a team

Team entries: Get your team leader to fill out an entry form and they can agree to our terms and conditions on behalf of the team.  If you are posting them in please use the comments box to add names and medical conditions and send in with one payment (either cheque or direct deposit).

Age Limit

Competitors must be at least 13 years old on the day of the event to compete.

Limited Numbers

This event has limited places available so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment!  We will advise on the website when the event sells out.

What to Wear/Bring

  • It is strongly advised that competitors wear a thermal polypropylene top and running shoes during the event.  You will get wet and muddy!
  • Football or rugby boots with moulded studs are acceptable; running spikes or boots with aluminium studs are not permitted.
  • A dry set of clothing, beanie and jacket is highly recommended following the event.
  • There will be hot showers and changing rooms available to clean yourself up so bring a towel!

Food and Drinks

Each competitor will receive a hot cup of soup on the finish line. Water will also be available in the finishing area.

Other food will be available from the venue for purchase.

Participants receive a 10% discount if they stay at Mountain Valley Camping Ground over the event weekend. Check out our range of accommodation and contact us for availability.


Prize-giving will be held 30 minutes after the last person completes the course. It will take place on the deck by the restaurant and bar and you must be present to take home any prizes!!

Prizes will be awarded to first male individual, first female individual and first team of 5 plus a special prize to the best dressed team as well as a variety of spot prizes.

Please note: You must be present to be eligible for spot prizes.

Entry and Payment

Online entries will include a non-refundable 3% credit card fee

To avoid the credit card fee, you can pay via direct debit and send entry and proof of payment to us.

Postal entries: Pay with cheque or direct deposit.

Refund and Transfer Policy

Online/credit card entries are charged a non-refundable 3% booking fee. 

No refunds will be given within 7 days of the event – no exceptions. A $10.00 administration fee will apply prior to this date.

Transfers may be made between competitors up until 7 days before the event – after then they must be made at registration at the event. If you are taking someone else’s entry you MUST let us know for safety reasons.

In the case of natural disaster, efforts will be made to postpone the event, the entry fee will not be refunded.

Entry Confirmation

Entry information will be emailed out a week prior to the event.

Online entries will be automatically sent a confirmation email to the address you enter. Postal entries will not be confirmed until they have been processed. Once processed, postal entries will be sent a confirmation email to the email address you put on your entry form (please print clearly).

All race information, race numbers and timing transponders are to be collected at registration. Any un-returned transponders will incur a $25 replacement charge.

Please note - the confirmation email is proof that you have entered and must be shown at registration.

We have designed a white fitted style t-shirt to mark the event that says Mountain Valley Mud and Guts 2016, I defied weakness.  You can order on-line when you register – please just add the size and number you want into the comments section.  If you pre-order the cost will be $25 for mens or womens and $20 for students.  PLEASE NOTE:  Orders need to be in by the 20th May 2016 so that they will be available in time for the event. There may be some available on the day. Payment can be made by any of the above mentioned payment methods.
